“Son of man, can these bones live?” — Ezekiel 37:3, KJV
Bring the opening of Ezekiel’s unforgettable Valley of Dry Bones vision into your home with this handcrafted, double-sided replica of Rahlfs Papyrus 967
Created on large genuine Egyptian papyrus by Sacred Text Replicas, this piece reproduces both sides of a surviving ancient manuscript leaf now preserved in Princeton University Library’s Scheide Collection.
The original was copied in Ancient Greek during the early third century AD—approximately 1,800 years ago.
THE VALLEY OF DRY BONES
The featured side preserves the conclusion of Ezekiel 39 and then moves directly into Ezekiel 37:1–3 and the opening words of verse 4. Here, the hand of the Lord comes upon Ezekiel, placing him among very dry bones. God asks the searching question: “Son of man, can these bones live?”
This is the beginning of the larger vision of Israel’s restoration—a powerful passage for reflecting on God’s ability to bring life and hope where human strength has ended.
TWO SIDES OF AN ANCIENT WITNESS
• Featured side: Ezekiel 39:22–29, followed by 37:1–4a—the opening of the Valley of Dry Bones.
• Opposite side: Ezekiel 39:13–22—the burial of Gog’s defeated forces, the cleansing of the land, and God making himself known to Israel.
WHY DOES CHAPTER 39 COME BEFORE CHAPTER 37?
Papyrus 967 preserves an unusual ancient arrangement: Ezekiel 36 → 38 → 39 → 37. The transition reproduced on this leaf reflects the manuscript’s actual sequence, offering a tangible connection to the early transmission of Scripture.
