Own a beautiful handcrafted replica of this surviving witness to the ancient Greek Old Testament.
P. Mich. inv. 2724, a fourth century manuscript fragment preserving portions of Genesis 13 in the Septuagint, the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures.
Recto — Genesis 13:7–8, preserved in part
The front describes the conflict between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and those of Lot. The names Abram and Lot survive, as do references to the Canaanites and Perizzites. Only the opening letters of verse 8 remain.
Verso — Genesis 13:10–11, preserved in part
The back describes the well-watered Jordan region, preserving portions of “before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah” and the comparison to “the garden of God.” It also preserves the beginning of the word describing Lot’s choice in verse 11.
The original was part of a codex, containing the Septuagint, the ancient Greek translation of the Old Testament. Its beautiful, evenly spaced book hand offers a glimpse into the careful copying of Scripture approximately 1,600 years ago.
***Handcrafted on Natural Goat Parchment***
Unlike ordinary paper reproductions, each replica is handcrafted on real goat-skin parchment-to faithfully recreate the look, feel, and durability of the writing surface on which this ancient manuscript was originally written.
Because genuine parchment is a natural material, every replica has its own variations in color, texture, thickness, markings, and edge character. These natural differences make each piece unique!
Each replica is reproduced at approximately the original size.
