The Earliest Johannine Manuscripts | Papyrus 52 & Papyrus 9 Replica Set

Papyrus 52 (𝔓52) and Papyrus 9 (𝔓9) form a remarkable set of early Johannine manuscripts, preserving portions of John 18 and 1 John 4.

Egyptian Papyrus

Own a remarkable double treasure: both Papyrus 52 (𝔓⁵²) and Papyrus 9 (𝔓⁹) — two of the earliest and most significant surviving witnesses to the New Testament. Each eloquently presented in acrylic frames.

These replicas brings these precious papyri to life exactly as they appear in the originals, allowing you to own and display both extraordinary manuscripts in one stunning presentation.

Papyrus 52 (𝔓⁵²) — the earliest known fragment of the Gospel of John — dates to around 125–175 AD and is widely regarded as one of the most important New Testament manuscripts ever discovered. On the recto (front) it preserves John 18:31–33, where Pilate questions Jesus. On the verso (back) it contains John 18:37–38, including Jesus’ powerful words: “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” This tiny fragment powerfully affirms the early existence and rapid circulation of John’s Gospel, offering profound theological weight as one of the closest surviving links to the apostolic era.

Papyrus 9 (𝔓⁹ / P.Oxy. 402) — dating to the late 2nd or early 3rd century AD — preserves portions of 1 John. The recto contains 1 John 4:11–12, while the verso (the side featured in this display) includes 1 John 4:14–17 with moving phrases such as “abides in him, and he in…”, “so we have come to believe…”, and “…love is perfected…”. This early witness highlights the Johannine emphasis on God’s love, abiding faith, and perfected love in the Christian life.
