Hebrew Manuscript 5/6Hev 1b
Bring home a meaningful connection to one of the Bible’s most beloved passages with this handcrafted replica of 5/6Hev 1b, Plate 891, Fragment 3—an ancient Hebrew manuscript fragment measuring only approximately 2 × 2 inches and preserving portions of Psalm 23.
Discovered in the Cave of Letters at Nahal Hever near the Dead Sea, this manuscript is part of the broader collection commonly known as the Dead Sea Scrolls.Dating to approximately the late first century BC to early first century AD, it is nearly 2,000 years old and preserves an early Hebrew witness to Psalm 23.
The surviving text includes words describing:
- “He leads me beside still waters…”
- “He restores my soul…”
- “Even though I walk through the valley…”
- “You prepare a table before me…”
Although the famous opening words, “The Lord is my shepherd,” are not preserved on this surviving fragment, it contains several of the psalm’s best-known lines. It offers a remarkable witness to the preservation and transmission of Psalm 23 during the Second Temple period.
Handcrafted on Real Natural Goat Vellum
Unlike ordinary paper reproductions, each replica is handcrafted on real natural goat-skin vellum parchment—a premium material selected despite its higher cost because nothing else so faithfully recreates the look, feel, and durability of the writing surface on which this ancient Dead Sea Scroll was originally written.
Because genuine vellum is a natural material, every replica has its own variations in color, texture, thickness, markings, and edge character. These natural differences make each piece unique!
Each Sacred Text Replica begins with careful research and close study of the surviving ancient manuscript. The manuscript image is reproduced on premium parchment, reflecting the material of the original manuscript, carefully cut and worked to recreate the irregular edges, lacunae, holes, and other signs of deterioration visible in the surviving manuscript. Because this finishing is performed individually rather than by automated cutting, subtle variations occur naturally, making each completed replica unique.
