This handcrafted biblical manuscript replica of Papyrus 37 (𝔓37), P. Mich. inv. 1570, an early Greek copy of the Gospel of Matthew preserved today at the University of Michigan Library.

The front of the surviving leaf contains Matthew 26:19–37, beginning with preparations for Passover and continuing through the Last Supper. Here Matthew records Jesus announcing that one of his disciples will betray him and giving the bread and cup to his disciples.

The reverse continues with Matthew 26:37–52, taking the reader into the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prays before his arrest. The passage continues through Judas' arrival and betrayal and the confrontation that follows.

The printed image is only the beginning of the process. Each replica is then individually finished by hand. The papyrus fibers are carefully cut and worked to recreate the irregular edges, lacunae, holes, and other signs of deterioration visible in the surviving manuscript. Because this finishing is performed individually rather than by automated cutting, subtle variations occur naturally, making each completed replica unique.
