Papyrus 9 was discovered in Oxyrhynchus, Egypt, as part of the famous Oxyrhynchus Papyri collection unearthed in the late 19th century.Dating to the late 2nd or early 3rd century AD, Papyrus 9 (𝔓⁹) is among the earliest surviving fragments of the New Testament. The original leaf contains 1 John 4:11–12 on the recto and 1 John 4:14–17 on the verso—the side replicated in this display—featuring phrases such as “abides in him, and he in…”, “so we have come to believe…”, and “…love is perfected…”.
Each replica is created entirely by hand, carefully recreating the texture, fiber structure, and aged appearance of ancient papyrus. Crafted with exceptional detail—feel free to zoom in and explore the surface and lettering up close. You’ll notice the difference immediately.
The fragment is shipped in a 6" x 8" black presentation box, suitable for gift giving. It is displayed in a 4"x6" clear acryclic frame, designed for upright or flat display on a desk, table, or bookshelf. If you prefer a gold-colored or white frame, simply message me your preference after purchase-otherwise shipped in the clear display pictured.
Note: Only the replicated side of the fragment is shown; the reverse side is intentionally blank, as seen in the photos.
You will also receive a beautifully designed, full-color 4" x 7" informational cardstock insert, explaining the discovery, dating, and textual significance of Papyrus 9 and its place in the history of the New Testament.
This piece invites viewers to reflect on the physical history of God’s Word and serves as a tangible connection between sacred Scripture, early Christianity, and the modern world.
It makes a thoughtful and meaningful gift for pastors, Bible students, scholars, professors, educators, collectors, and anyone fascinated by the history of sacred Scripture.
Please Note
This item is a modern replica, created for artistic, educational, and display purposes. It is not an ancient artifact.
The fragment is lightly set within the display frame and is not permanently fixed, allowing you to remove it for closer examination or to place it in a different frame if desired. Because the papyrus edges are intentionally delicate to reflect age and wear, repositioning should be done with care. When moving between frames, I recommend using tweezers to protect the fibers.
